About my Paintings
The Maine landscape reflects the power and endurance of nature. Secrets lie beneath the surface of weathered rocks along the coast. I try to capture the moment of tension that exist between the power of the sea and the nobility of ancient Maine granite. Through layers of paint, applied and scraped away, this evolution is explored in both spirit and form.
As a jeweler I am limited by size and weight. Painting enables me to create without the limitations imposed by something that must be comfortable to wear. Borrowing from my technique of combining silver with resin and pigments to create jewelry I alternate layers of resin, paint and, at times, other non traditional found materials in my paintings. The surfaces of each piece is sanded and continually reworked. This process results in a new body of work that illustrates my personal interpretation of the rich textures and atmosphere found along the Maine coast.
